Derek Hughes (amateur radio callsign G7LFC) was licensed as an amateur radio operator in 1990.
His background is in electronics and computing have studied electronics and TV servicing at Wigan College and then gone on to work in the communications industry. Derek’s career path took him from communications to computing and ultimately to become a network manager for one of the largest accounting firms in the country.
Along the way Derek has always been involved in teaching and training and today he can be found in the Engineering department at Southport College delivering electronics and maths to further and higher education students.
In addition to working full-time at Southport College Derek is a founder member of the Quantum Amateur Radio & Technology Society, an organiser of SOS Radio Week and an active amateur radio operator specialising in HF digital modes. Oh, and he develops the odd software program in his spare time.
